SPD-Verteidigungspolitiker Arnold fordert mehr Soldaten für Afghanistan

Der SPD-Verteidigungsexperte Rainer Arnold plädiert für eine Aufstockung der internationalen Streitkräfte in Afghanistan. Das Land brauche mehr Soldaten, sagte Arnold nach einer Afghanistanreise am 29. August im Deutschlandfunk. Angesichts der Kämpfe im Süden Afghanistans könne er Forderungen dortiger Generäle nach mehr Bodentruppen verstehen.

Afghan Elders and U.S. Differ on Who Killed 12 Civilians

Hajji Agha Muhammad, an Afghan elder, said airstrikes had killed 12 civilians and wounded 12 others in Kobar, a village in the volatile Musa Qala district, on Saturday night. Mr. Muhammad said the dead included six children ages 3 to 6 and two women.

U.S. bomb in Afghanistan kills three British soldiers

A bomb apparently dropped by an American fighter jet called in for air support killed three British soldiers in southern Afghanistan, officials said today. Two soldiers were seriously wounded.
