What is obvious to everyone covering this conflict is that children are bearing the brunt of it. The few official figures collated so far seem to support this. UNICEF says that 37 of the 60 dead in Qana on Sunday were children, and everywhere you go, it seems that it is the children who are being killed, injured and displaced.

Nach Angaben des UN-Kinderhilfswerks Unicef sind bei der israelischen Militäroffensive im Libanon bislang mehr Kinder als Soldaten gestorben. Schätzungsweise ein Drittel der insgesamt 620 Toten und 3200 Verletzten im Libanon seien Kinder und Jugendliche, sagte der Unicef-Geschäftsführer für Deutschland, Dietrich Garlichs, am Dienstag in Berlin. Die Zahl der Vertriebenen bezifferte er auf rund 800.000 Menschen.

Lebanese Red Cross Repeatedly Targeted

"The night of July 23 we were called to rescue a family whose home was bombed," Kassem Shaulan, a 28-year-old medic with the Lebanese Red Cross in Tyre told IPS. "Just as I finished loading the three injured people in my ambulance, it was struck by a rocket and all of us were injured."
