Gestorben wird heute: Warum es keine Alternative zum Rückzug aus Afghanistan gibt

„Im Herbst 2007 soll im Bundestag zum wiederholten Mal der Einsatz der Bundeswehr in Afghanistan verlängert werden. Die bisherigen Abstimmungen waren ohne besondere Diskussionen und ohne nennenswerten Widerstand über die Bühne gegangen. Einen neue Situation trat erst ein, als im Frühjahr d.J. die Bundesregierung den Afghanistan-Einsatz um die Entsendung von sechs Tornado-Aufklärungsflugzeugen meinte aufstocken zu müssen, angeblich um den Verbündeten NATO-Kräften bei der Identifizierung von feindlichen Taliban-Stellungen behilflich zu sein. Da dieser zusätzliche Einsatz – wohl aus Rücksicht auf die deutliche Ablehnung in der Öffentlichkeit - zunächst nur für ein halbes Jahr bewilligt wurde, steht nun ebenfalls im Herbst auch die Verlängerung dieses Einsatzes an. Helmand province in southern Afghanistan, where some 7,000 British troops are based, is on the verge of becoming the world's biggest drugs supplier, cultivating more opium than entire countries such as Burma, Morocco, or even Colombia, the UN warned yesterday.

U.S., NATO occupation forces have killed more Afghan civillians than "insurgents"

U.S.-led , NATO occupation forces fighting "insurgents" in Afghanistan have killed at least 203 civilians so far this year - surpassing the 178 civilians killed in militant attacks, according to an Associated Press tally.

Karzai angry over West's tactics

Civilian Deaths in Afghanistan Causing Alarm

US-led coalition and NATO forces fighting insurgents in Afghanistan have killed at least 203 civilians so far this year - surpassing the 178 civilians killed in militant attacks. Insurgency attacks and military operations have surged in recent weeks, and in the past ten days, more than 90 civilians have been killed by airstrikes and artillery fire targeting Taliban insurgents.
