Unemployment Edges Up to 9.6 Percent as Weak Job Growth Continues

Dean Baker, The Center for Economic and Policy Research: "The unemployment rate edged up to 9.6 percent in August as the economy shed 54,000 jobs. The decline was entirely attributable to the loss of 114,000 temporary Census jobs. Excluding these jobs, the economy created 60,000 jobs. With job growth for the prior two months revised up by 123,000, excluding the Census jobs, the August pace is roughly even with June and July."

That’s always the War Party’s argument of last resort. Yet polls show it isn’t working all that well, and the President rightly fears a rebellion by the voters: he’s already seeing a revolt against his domestic policies by the tea partiers, and the Democrats are down by a whopping 10 percent in the polls. What if Americans wake up to the fact that not only are our own banksters being bailed out, but so are Afghanistan’s?
