Americans Have a Right to Know

By Ray McGovern, Daniel Ellsberg and Coleen Rowley

It is a safe bet that NSA, CIA, FBI and other agencies have been instructed to do all possible to make an example of Wikileaks leader, Australian-born Julian Assange, and his colleagues. Much is at stake -- for both Pentagon and freedom of the press.

The Strange and Consequential Case of Bradley Manning, Adrian Lamo and WikiLeaks

By Glenn Greenwald

From the start, this whole story was quite strange for numerous reasons. In an attempt to obtain greater clarity about what really happened here, I've spent the last week reviewing everything I could related to this case and speaking with several of the key participants (including Lamo, with whom I had a one-hour interview last night that can be heard on the recorder below.

WikiLeaks Aftermath Puts Spotlight on Obama Administration's Crackdown on Whistleblowers

Amy Goodman and Juan Gonzalez, Democracy NOW!: "Pentagon investigators are reportedly still searching for Wikileaks co-founder Julian Assange, who helped release a classified US military video showing a US helicopter gunship indiscriminately firing on Iraqi civilians. The US military recently arrested Army Specialist Bradley Manning, who may have passed on the video to Wikileaks."

WikiLeaks May Be Under Attack - Courage Is Contagious

One of our alleged sources, a young US intelligence analyst, Bradley Manning, has been detained and shipped to a US military prison in Kuwait, where he is being held without trail. Mr. Manning is alleged to have acted according to his conscious and leaked to us the Collateral Murder video and the video of a massacre that took place in Afghanistan last year at Garani. The Garani massacre, which we are still working on, killed over 100 people, mostly children. Mr. Manning was allegedly exposed after talking to an unrelated "journalist" who then worked with the US government to detain him. WikiLeaks a small organization going through enormous growth and operating in an advers arial, high-security environment which can make communication time consuming and the acquisition of new staff and volunteers, also difficult since they require high levels of trust. To try and deal with our growth and the current difficult situation, we want to get you to work together with our other supporters to set up a "Friends of WikiLeaks" group in your area. We have multiple supporters in most countries and would like to see them be a strong and independent force. Please write to friends@sunshinepress.org if you are interested in helping with Friends of WikiLeaks in your area. You will receive further instructions. We also have significant unexpected legal costs (for example flying a legal team to Kuwait, video production. Collateral Murder production costs were $50,000 all up). Any financial contributions will be of IMMEDIATE assistance. Please donate and tell the world that you have done so. Encourage all your friends to follow the example you set, after all, courage is contagious.

Bradley Manning, American patriot

AntiWar.Com
by Justin Raimondo

Army Specialist Bradley Manning, the intelligence analyst who leaked the ‘Collateral Murder’ video of US pilots shooting down Iraqi civilians (including two Reuters photographers) in cold blood, is finally being charged. For revealing to the American people the truth about what’s going on in Iraq, Manning faces horrendous legal consequences — nearly sixty years in prison if convicted on all counts. One of the charges, incredibly, is espionage. He was a ’spy,’ according to the US government — for letting Americans in on the ’secret’ that we are committing war crimes in Iraq, and around the world...

What makes Bradley Manning a hero?

Center for a Stateless Society
by Darian Worden

07/21/10

Everybody must deal with stress and everybody makes mistakes. A hero is not someone without weakness. A hero is someone who manages to do the right thing in spite of his weaknesses. Manning realized the tyranny of an organization he played an active part in. Instead of force-feeding himself more propaganda or eating his gun, he did something positive about it. As Henry David Thoreau said in Civil Disobedience, ‘Must the citizen ever for a moment, or in the least degree, resign his conscience to the legislator? Why has every man a conscience, then?’
