Security for key US military supply routes in Afghanistan is in the hands of a small group of powerful Afghan warlords who run a massive protection racket and may be paying off the Taliban, according to a Congressional report being released Tuesday. Zu Überlegungen der NATO über einem möglichen Einsatz von Awacs-Aufklärungsflugzeugen in Afghanistan, erklärt Christine Buchholz, Mitglied im Geschäftsführenden Parteivorstand:

DIE LINKE lehnt einen Einsatz von Awacs-Aufklärungsflugzeugen in Afghanistan ab. Schon jetzt ist Deutschland tief in den Kriegseinsatz verstrickt. Weder mehr Soldaten noch Awacs-Einsätze lösen die Probleme in der Region. Lange Zeit hat die Bundesregierung der Bevölkerung vorgegaukelt, sie würde in Afghanistan keinen Krieg führen, sondern beim Wiederaufbau des Landes helfen. Die Strategie der zivil-militärischen Kooperation ist gescheitert. DIE LINKE fordert die Umwidmung aller Gelder in rein zivile Projekte. Bei den Bundeswehreinsätzen geht es nicht vorrangig um Demokratie und Wiederaufbau, es geht um NATO-Bündnistreue und eine eigenständige Rolle der Bundesrepublik bei der strategischen Sicherung von Einflusssphären und Ressourcen. DIE LINKE weist den NATO-Beschluss von Bukarest über das fortgesetzte, auf einen militärischen Sieg ausgerichtete Engagement in Afghanistan zurück und bekräftigt, dass das Ende der Besatzung Bedingung für Frieden, politische Stabilität und Wiederaufbau ist. DIE LINKE lehnt den durchsichtigen Versuch der Bundesregierung ab, das Thema Afghanistan durch Verlängerung des Mandats aus dem Bundestagswahlkampf 2009 herauszuhalten. Wir fordern alle Bundestagsabgeordneten auf, weder einer Verlängerung und Aufstockung der Bundeswehrmandate ISAF und OEF noch Awacs-Einsätzen zuzustimmen.
