Heute übernimmt die Bundeswehr die Schnelle Eingreiftruppe im Norden Afghanistans. Dazu erklärt Christine Buchholz, Mitglied im Geschäftsführenden Parteivorstand der Partei DIE LINKE:

Lange Zeit hat die Bundesregierung der Bevölkerung vorgegaukelt, sie würde in Afghanistan keinen Krieg führen, sondern beim Wiederaufbau des Landes helfen. Mit dem heutigen Tag kann sie nicht mehr leugnen, dass der Bundeswehreinsatz kein Hilfseinsatz ist, sondern ein Kriegseinsatz an der Seite der USA. Damit verspielt die Bundesregierung die Chance auf Frieden in Afghanistan und bringt Soldatinnen und Soldaten der Bundeswehr in Gefahr. Die Schnelle Eingreiftruppe hat ein offensives Kampfmandat. Doch es ist klar: Krieg und Besatzung finden keine Unterstützung in der afghanischen Bevölkerung. Deshalb nimmt auch der Widerstand gegen die Besatzungstruppen ständig zu. Die Schnelle Eingreiftruppe kann auch nicht den Wiederaufbau unterstützen. Denn Wiederaufbau ist mit Waffengewalt nicht zu erzwingen, sondern wird durch Krieg und Besatzung verhindert. Die Linke hat sich von Anfang an gegen die Entsendung der Schnellen Eingreiftruppe ausgesprochen und lehnt die Verlängerung und Aufstockung des Afghanistan-Mandates von 3500 auf 4500 Soldatinnen und Soldaten ab. Der Einsatz in Afghanistan wird zu einem Fass ohne Boden. Je tiefer sich die Bundeswehr in Kampfhandlungen verstrickt, desto lauter werden die Rufe nach mehr Soldaten werden. Das muss die Bundesregierung endlich begreifen. Die Bevölkerung in Deutschland weiß das: 74% lehnen laut SPIEGEL eine Aufstockung der Bundewehrtruppen in Afghanistan ab.

The deterioration of the war is undoubtedly a factor behind the shift. (Incidentally, in a similar shift, Washington recently approached China and India also for the dispatch of troops to Afghanistan.) Britain's Telegraph newspaper reported last week on a growing "despair" in Washington over the NATO allies' perceived failings in Afghanistan. The gung-ho attitude - "have-gun-will-travel" - is no more there.

Juni auf Seite 1 unter dem Titel "Neuer Marschbefehl für Afghanistan" über Planungen der Regierungskoalition, die Truppenstärke der Bundeswehr in Afghanistan von derzeit 3.500 auf 4.500 zu erhöhen. Die Friedensbewegung, die mitten in der Vorbereitung einer bundesweiten Demonstration am 20. September zur Beendigung des Afghanistan-Einsatzes steckt, fühlte sich dadurch herausgefordert und reagierte mit einer ersten Stellungnahme des Bundesausschusses Friedensratschlag.
