Here lies Juan Gama‚ shot dead by the U.S. National Guard border patrol. His crime: seeking a better life for himself and his parents‚ brothers‚ children and friends without permission from Uncle Sam. Juan was uneducated and unskilled‚ but he was ready to work hard‚ live frugally‚ ask nothing from anyone and go as far as his talents would take him. Now he's dead‚ and his family is still at the mercy of a society run by corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. His killer was ultimately an employee of John Doe‚ who wanted the fruits of his labors to go to his own family‚ not to Juan's. But John knew that if Juan made it across the border safely‚ Juan's circle would be entitled to free education‚ health care‚ retirement benefits‚ translators and God-knows-what-else‚ all at John's expense...

An Interview With John Dean

Matthew Rothschild interviews John Dean, Nixon's former White House counsel for three years who later testified against him. He is the author, most recently, of "Worse Than Watergate: The Secret Presidency of George W. Bush." On March 31, Dean testified in favor of Senator Russ Feingold's censure bill.

INTERVIEW: John Dean says impeachment 'not out of the question' but 'I fear for the system'

[On Saturday, the *Progressive* published an interview, conducted on Apr. 28, with John Dean, who recently published *Worse Than Watergate: The Secret Presidency of George W. Bush*.[1] -- Dean discusses the character of Richard Nixon, and analyzes where power lies in the White House. -- He says he fears the U.S. government: "I don’t frighten easily, but I find it frightening because Dick Cheney knows no limits. The only person he reports to is George Bush. He works behind closed doors. And I know, from little tidbits I’m picking up from friends who have to be careful not to speak out of school, that there’s more probably more covert activity going on, both abroad and maybe here in the United States, than in decades because of this so-called war on terror. . . . I fear for the system. And I fear for our liberties. Only a small group of people fights for our liberties. Once we start on the slippery slope and those people are put in jeopardy, then we’re really in trouble." --Mark]

Winning hearts and minds: Bush laughs... it's the war

From an interview with GW Bush on MSN NBC

http://www.rawstory.com/news/2006/Bush_Life_good_unsettled_people_disapprove_0519.html

MSNBC: Let me ask you about your leadership. In the most recent survey, your disapproval rating is now one point lower than Richard Nixon’s before he resigned the presidency. [BUSH laughs] You’re laughing... dist.

BUSH: I’m not laughing.

MSNBC: Why do you think that is?

BUSH: Because we’re at war. And war unsettles people. Listen, we’ve got a great economy. We’ve added 5.2 million jobs in the last two-and-a-half years, but people are unsettled. They don’t look at the economy and say, 'life is good.' They know we’re at war. And I’m not surprised that people are unsettled because of war. The enemy’s got a powerful tool — that is to get on your TV screen by killing innocent people. And my job is to continue to remind the people it’s worth it. ...
