A Transocean rig manager testified yesterday that, about a week before the April 20 Deepwater Horizon explosion in the Gulf of Mexico, he challenged his counterparts at BP to explain their decision to swap out the most experienced well site leader — or ‘company man’ — for someone less familiar with the rig. … ‘We did have numerous well-control issues throughout drilling this well,’ Transocean’s Paul Johnson, who managed the Deepwater Horizon from Houston, testified at a federal fact-finding hearing in Houston. When he found out that the new company man, Robert Kaluza, would soon fly to the rig, he said: ‘I was a little concerned … We didn’t know who this gentleman was’...

"the name of the company that mines the phosphate fertilizer and then markets/distributes the fluoride it removes from its fertilizer is Mosaic, and they are a huge global company, but keep a low profile. The CEO from Mosaic is on the board of directors of Nalco, which is making the "dispersant" Corexit that they are dumping into the Gulf of Mexico. Also on Nalco's board is the VP from Monsanto. The CEO of Nalco is also tied in with Eli Lilly and Dupont. But at this point, I am certain that Mosaic is providing fluoride because it is profitable for the pharmaceutical industry, which then treats the symptoms".

[M]y father wouldn’t stand much of a chance in today’s America. He was a good, kind man who was honest and hard-working to the bone. He would have reacted to the thieving tax-whores by working harder and dying even younger because I don’t think he would have believed that the basic concept of fairness had fled the Continent. He would have kept voting different people into the same positions of privilege in the hope that ‘the little guy’ still made a difference. He would keep telling his children to study hard and obey the law because, if you do, then anything is possible to you. He wouldn’t have believed the con job and scam that society has become; he wouldn’t believe that those who work hard and come home after ten or twelve hours days, as he did, are now the chumps of the world. Working hard and being honest now makes you a fool who is willing to die young so that thieves may prosper at your children’s expense...

To get to the beach, we walk past a red, plastic barrier fence that until very recently was there to keep people away from the oil-soaked area. Now, there are a few openings that beach goers can use. Despite "All Clear," Mississippi Sound Tests Positive for Oil

Dahr Jamail and Erika Blumenfeld, Truthout: "The State of Mississippi's Department of Marine Resources opened all of its territorial waters to fishing on August 6. This was done in coordination with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the US Food and Drug Administration, despite concerns from commercial fishermen in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida about the presence of oil and toxic dispersants from the BP oil disaster. On August 19, Truthout accompanied two commercial fishermen from Mississippi on a trip into the Mississippi Sound in order to test for the presence of submerged oil. Laboratory test results from samples taken on that trip show extremely high concentrations of oil in the Mississippi Sound."
